Module Description: |
This module is one of the Exercise Professional suite. It prepares the learner to work as a personal trainer (PT) in the exercise and fitness industry. Building on prior learning in gym instruction this module deepens the learners knowledge of technical aspects of fitness instruction, introduces psychological aspects of behaviour change theory and offers an opportunity to practice as a PT.

Assess client's readiness for exercise and assist them in setting personal exercise goals. |

Apply behaviour change theory to the practical personal training environment. |

Plan, deliver and evaluate an exercise programme for one client. |

Role and function of the personal trainer; qualities of the personal trainer

Motivating people to be physically active
Assessing readiness for exercise; Applying behaviour change theory; Principles of adherance and motivation; Goal setting.

Communication and Teaching Techniques
Client/trainer relationship; Effective communication skills for one to one training. Motivational Interviewing.

Health Screening and Fitness Testing
Health and lifestyle screening; Choosing and administrating fitness tests in a one-to-one setting.

Exercise Programming
Principles and considerations of programme design; Programming for beginner, intermediate and advanced clients; Training techniques.

Legal and Contractual Aspects
Legal considerations; Record keeping; Insurance issues.

Personal Training
Working with a client as a personal trainer for 12 one hour sessions
