Module Description: In this module the student will produce a business plan on an original business idea of their choice. All aspects of developing a business including financial and legal requirements, location, staffing and marketing/promotion will be included.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Formulate a business plan based on an original idea in the service or leisure area.
LO2 Investigate the proposed opportunity using an appropriate business structure.
LO3 Present a structured oral presentation for the project, which fulfills the objectives of the report and validation of the business proposal.
LO4 Collate, structure and evaluate relevant information and develop critical evaulation skills.
LO5 Provide a structured, logical and persuasive argument in report form outlining the feasibility of the business plan.

Introducing the Business Plan
The proposal of the business venture.
The organisational plan
Business structure. Organisational structure. Legal structure.
The Marketing Plan
Primary and secondary marketing research. SWOT and Competitor analysis. Questionnaire design and analysis. Integrated Marketing Communication strategies.
The financial plan
Sources of equity financing, e.g. Venture capitalists, family and personal equity. The role of local and national agencies. Sources of debt financing. Profit and Loss and cash flow accounts for the new venture.
The Operations Plan
Location, layout and physical facilities. Operations Management - Staffing, Supply systems and control. Information Technology.
International entrepreneurship opportunities
Location and environment of the business and plans for future developments on a national and international level. State support and government agencies.
Managing, growing and ending the venture.
Management of business once established. Strengths and weaknesses of the business. Areas for potential growth and collaboration.
