Module Description: This module provides students with a clear understanding of the importance of creativity and innovation to the success of the firm and to the economy at large. Students will explore creative thinking tools and techniques and will examine the link between creativity, idea generation and innovation. Students will learn about different innovation types, how to identify & evaluate innovation opportunities and how to manage innovation effectively within the organisation. Students will explore how a more creative climate in the organization can be developed and how to share knowledge across organisational boundaries through open innovation.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Evaluate innovation ecosystems and policy in the countries that are innovation leaders.
LO2 Explore the relationship between creativity and innovation in the development of a new product, process, service or business model. Evaluate different tools and techniques that support creative thinking and idea generation.
LO3 Analyse the nature and importance of innovation to enterprise and view innovation as a management process.
LO4 Identify innovation opportunities and the core capabilities for innovation within an organisation.
LO5 Define the role of knowledge based activities, relationships and networks in the development of a new product, process, service or business model.
LO6 Evaluate the role of intellectual property rights in the commercial exploitation of creations and inventions.

Managing Innovation
