Module Description: This module will introduce the role of typography within Graphic Design. It will introduce the students to the basic language and principles of Typography.

Type as communication Tool
Exploring emotional and expressive value of type - form, texture, tone
Anatomy of type and classification -
x-heights, characters, treatment of letterforms. Exploring the characteristics of typefaces and their relationships in graphic design
Typographic elements and spatial relationships
Spacing, alignment, size. Developing an understanding of spacing and the relationship of negative and positive space
Typography and Design
Legibility, readability, emphasis and hierarchy. Exploring the communicative value and purpose of the treatment of type in graphic design
Main Project
Project encompasses the combination of the principles and expressive value of type
