Module Description: This module introduces students to the concepts, practices, skills and basic technology appropriate to the generation of a visual / 3D response to a given brief. These skills and methods enable the learner to develop a dialogue between material and concept. Students will be encouraged to explore their ideas through a range of materials while participating in specific workshops in the fundamental processes of Ceramics,Glass & Textiles.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Investigation and Research Methods
Analytical and imaginative response to a given brief through exploration of the following: primary and secondary sources, visual information and personal collection of objects / artifacts.
Formal Elements
Appropriate application of 2D / 3D spatial elements and their relationship to format, composition and response to concepts.
Technical Processes
Use of appropriate media, processes and techniques which may include some of the following: basic construction techniques, additive and subtractive techniques, assembly, relief, plinth, base, carving, casting, modelling, Ceramics, Glass, and Textiles.
Skill Development
Collection methods, evaluation strategies, superimposition, juxtaposition, construction, deconstruction.
Terminology
Vocabulary as it relates to specific 2D and 3D processes. Definition of Principles and context of Applied Art.
