Module Description: This module explores core concepts of media practice within Fine Art, introducing aspects such as: navigating within digital imaging software (moving image), storing and saving files safely, and demonstrating essential editing tools.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Use a digital camera to acquire still and moving digital images.
LO2 Command digital imaging techniques and import and edit sound and visuals on a timeline.
LO3 Engage with multimedia technologies, processes and software associated with digital image production
LO4 Evaluate how digital imagery in a fine art context situates itself in relation to conventional practices in mainstream media
LO5 Utilize and evaluate moving image based practices.

Indicative Content
Shooting
Introduction to using the camera, settings, exposure, white balance, format.
Approaches to video as process
Considers the materiality of video as a language, durational aspects, sequencing of imagery, lens and screen based aspects.
Importing and Editing
Importing to a timeline, adding and subtracting from footage on the timeline, rearranging sequences of clips, applying effects and transitions, compressing and exporting as quicktime files.
Collaborative practices
Working together in groups during trial and testing of materials and installation, and to revisit and achieve desired outcomes.
Research
Ongoing contextual research, developing critical underpinning of individual work, establishing and maintaining an informed position in relation to contemporary art practices in media.
Presentations
Group critical seminars, articulation of ideas and presentation of work, peer discussion and critique.
Gallery visits and screenings
Visits to view work of relevant artists at gallery exhibitions and film festival screenings
