Module Description: This module provides the student with a foundation of the fundamental principles of Human Resource Management and introduces the learner to the strategic role of human resource strategy in achieving the goals of the modern organisation.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Describe the historical development of the Human Resource Function and the emergence of the HR Manager as a professional.
LO2 Explain the strategic nature of human resource management and HRM as a source of competitive advantage.
LO3 Discuss core HR activities (Employee resourcing, performance management, training and development and reward) and their contribution to organisational success.
LO4 Evaluate modern employment relationships.

Major functions of HR in organisations - attracting, developing & maintaining an effective workforce; Human Resource Planning; Recruitment & Selection; Performance Management; Training & Development; Reward Management.
