Module Description: This Module will show the student how Safe Systems of Work affect various Safety outcomes.The module will cover the following safety topics,
- Fire Safety and Emergency Procedures
- Manual Handling & Ergonomic Assessment
- Accident Causation and Investigation
- Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment
This module is delivered in accelerated mode - over 7 weeks.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Work effectively as part of a Health and Safety team.
LO2 Develop an evacuation procedure and implement the procedure on a chosen campus building.
LO3 Perform manual handling tasks.
LO4 Perform an accident / incident investigation.
LO5 Execute hazard identification and complete an assosiated risk assessment.

Safety Mamagment Systems
Work hazards. Risk Evaluation. Risk Assessment methods. Hazard controls.Auditing safety managment systems.
Managing health and safety
Adaption of workplace to workers; health surveillance; occupational health services; rehabilitation and adoption; vulnerable workers (young, pregnant, trainee, disabled); employee assistance programmes. Promotion of health and safety awareness and behaviour through communication and training.
Practical Ergonomics
Body structure and function. Movement – direction (normal and damaging). Good manual handling techniques.
Evacuation
The procedures and methods associated with Evacuation.
