Module Description: The aim of this module is to provide the learner with a knowledge of the structure and application of supervisory level Human Resource Management practice.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Explain the importance of basic principles and procedures of human resource management practice in achieving organisational success.
LO2 Apply the theoretical knowledge required for effective supervision of people at operational level
LO3 Describe the key areas of systematic recruitment, selection and induction, motivation, performance management and reward.
LO4 Design and implement training programmes to be delivered at operational level
LO5 Recognise key pieces of employment legislation and their application in the supervision of people in the hospitality industry.

Basic principles and procedures of Human Resource Management
Historical background, core activities, role of supervisor in managing people.
Human resource planning
Stages in the human resource planning process. Planning to ensure adequate human resources are available to the organisation.
Systematic approach to employee supervision
The recruitment and selection process, induction, motivation, appraisal of performance, reward management.
Training
Learning styles and learning cycle. Identify training needs. Design, plan, prepare and deliver an effective training programme at operational level. Evaluation of training. SOP's.
Employment legislation
Employment law pertaining to the HR function.
