Module Description: This module will critically examine the principles and rules of international trade with a focus on the institutions that enable trade. It will discuss the role and involvement of the European Union and evaluate the critical area of dispute resolution procedures utilised in international trade disputes.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

The development of international trade regulation.
Political and economic arguments in favour of international trade regulation. The establishment of the World Trade Organisation. Multi lateral trade negotiations.
The World Trade Organisation
Membership and structure of the WTO. Principles and substantive law of the WTO. Recent rounds of negotiations and key issues facing the WTO
The role of the European Union
Establishment and development of the European Union. Institutional structure, policy formation and decision making at EU level. The role of the EU in international trade regulation.
International Trade Disputes
Dispute settlement procedures utilised in international trade. Conflict of laws. Litigation and Arbitration
