Module Description: This module focuses on the practise and importance of communication in the business setting. It aims to increase student confidence in written and oral communication. This module also focuses on the tasks undertaken to successfully host and participate in meetings.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Indicative Content
Introduction to Communication
Key elements in the communication process. Forms of communication in the business setting. Barriers to communication.
Presentation Skills
Purpose/objectives, audience analysis, time management, voice projection, opening and closing presentations. Dealing with Q/A sessions. Individual and group presentations. Networking online and offline.
Non-verbal Communication
Types of non-verbal communication and the importance of non-verbal behaviour when conducting business.
Written and Electronic Communication
Business correspondence, business reports, effective use of electronic communication in business.
Referencing
Understanding plagiarism. Quoting, Paraphrasing, Summarising. Bibliography. Checking work for plagiarism using detective software
Meetings
Participant roles, Documents - agenda, minutes. Conducting and participating in the meeting.
