Module Description: This module is designed to provide the student with an in depth knowledge of individual employment law issues, the rights and entitlements of employees and the corresponding obligations on employers.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Indicative Content
The Employment Relationship
Contract of Employment. Duties of employers and employees. Atypical Workers.
Employment Equality Law
Evolution of Irish employment equality law. Equal Pay. Equal treatment. Discrimination, Harassment and Sexual Harassment.
Termination of Employment
An in depth examination of Unfair Dismissal, Constructive Dismissal, Wrongful Dismissal and Redundancy. Fair Procedures and Remedies, including Employment Injunctions
Transfer of Business
Rights and obligations arising under the EC (Protection of Employees on Transfer of Undertakings) Regulations 2003.
Health & Safety
Common law and statutory duties of employers and employees, designers, manufacturers, constructors of places of work; Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act 2005; Bullying and workplace stress; Health and Safety Authority; Relevant Codes of Practice and Procedures.
