Module Description: Tourism Industry Learning P&E aims to provide an opportunity for the student to engage with and work on a relevant industry project on behalf of a tourism organisation. The student will form a liasion with a tourism operation in conducting a project that is specific to an identified and college approved tourism enterprise. Industry participants will act as mentors, along with lecturers and each project will be tailor made to benefit the employer and to meet the learning outcomes. All projects must be approved by the Department before commencement by the student.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Analyse a business task presented to them by a tourism organisation mentor.
LO2 Devise a plan of work and schedule of delivery in order to reach the desired objectives of the project in conjunction with all stakeholders involved. ( Institute, Industry and Student)
LO3 Participate in learning in an active way within an industry environment to ascertain the processes involved in tourism enterprises
LO4 Apply specialised marketing skills to a live industry situation and work as a team in achieving organisational objectives and in making key decisions
LO5 Develop a report on key findings, including the process involved

Indicative Content
Performance of a Tourism Business Task
The student in conjunction with a tourism business provider and the Institute, will be assigned a tourism business task with a clearly defined objective. The role of the student is to participate with the industry mentor in analysing a clearly defined question related to their particular business. The student is expected to draw on theoretical aspects in Tourism Industry Learning and relate these to 'a live' tourism situation, and formulate an outcome relevant to the business question / task.
