Module Description: This module will introduce the learner to the ways in which organisational performance may be improved through the effective management of people. It aims to explain the concepts of organisational behaviour and why people behave the way they do at work in an accessible way using examples from areas of hospitality businesses.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

What influences people at work
Behaviour at work, Group behaviour and performance, Attitudes, Perception, The people-organisation relationship, the psychological contract, the informal organisation.
The nature of management and supervision
Management as an integrating activity and a social process, the flexibility of managerial work, management and job stress, managing change, managerial effectiveness.
Motivation, performance management and reward systems
Needs and expectations at work, practical applications of motivational theories, job design, restructuring, job enrichment and core job dimensions, broader approaches to job design, involvement and empowerment. Operant and Classical conditioning.
Delegation, supervision,and control in improving organisational perfor
The practice and difficulties associated with delegation, staff development, staff turnover, the need for management control, performance improvement and appraisal, the exercise of control and stages in control systems, supervision and supportive relationships.
