Module Description: This module introduces the student to the theoretical and practical matters associated with the provision of buildings for hospitality.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO2 Analyse how effective building performance meets operational needs and enhances the guest experience.
LO3 Identify the different spheres of Property Management and the roles and responsibilities associated with these.
LO4 Outline the aims and scope of maintenance services in property management.
LO5 Evaluate how good building design supports effective environmental management practices in hospitality.

Customer, Workforce and Organisation
The Customer as a resource to be managed, the impact of human resources on service operations, operational relationships.
The Building Development Process
Concept, Planning,Legal requirements, Construction, Operations, Asset Management, Interior Design.
Building design and environmental management.
Environmental impact of buildings, sustainable building design, waste, energy, water, indoor environment.
Maintenance Services
Developing a maintenance policy, Maintenance systems and their control, Waste disposal, Pest control. Standards (BSI, BEAB, The Design Council etc)
The spheres of Property Management
The purchasing process, sourcing supplies, costs and budgeting, risk management, contract services.
