Module Description: This module will increase the student's awareness of employee relations issues arising at enterprise level and the practical methods of enhancing said employee relations. Throughout the module, attention is focused on dispute resolution, practical and effective means of dealing with employee relations issues, and relevant legislative enactments.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Identify how employment law facilitates the fostering of good employer/employee relations.
LO2 Apply best practice to managing employee relations issues relating to health, safety and welfare of employees, such as bullying, harassment and workplace stress.
LO3 Explain how work and family responsibilities may be reconciled.
LO4 Negotiate between management and employees.
LO5 Identify the implications of legal materials including the Constitution, legislation, codes of practice and contemporary decisions on HR policies, practices and procedures.

Historical overview of the Employment Law Relationship
Historical analysis of the employment relationship. Development of employee relations. Models of employee relations. Institutions and Actors. Employee Involvement and Participation.
Dispute Resolution
Managing employee relations issues whilst working within the law. Internal grievance procedures. Internal disciplinary procedures. Negotiation, Mediation and Conciliation. Counselling. Codes of Practice and Policies. Effective means of dealing with bullying / stress / harassment and monitoring thereof.
Reconciliation of Work and Family Responsibilities
Practical implications of family and work/life balance legislative enactments.
