Module Description: This module will incorporate a series of introductory sessions in three separate but related strands: Lecture Courses: Form and Meaning in Early Modern Art; Victorian popular culture; and, regular seminars, based on a rotating programme of short seminar based discussions on the following themes: Beauty, Culture and Power; Material objects; Theorizing Film; the application of Design in recent Irish Culture.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO5 Discuss and evaluate the chronology, key figures & movements in art, architecture or design of the period.

The Seminar programme in semester two is divided into four separate strands through which each first year group rotates. This includes: Theorizing Beauty, Culture and Power; Object handing and the problem of taste; a brief introduction to Chinese Scroll Painting; A series of visits to artists' studios and research locations in Cork
