Explain and describe the Social and Economic factors as well as the Environmental Sustainability implications relative to the forestry sector. |
LO2 |
Describe and explain the various methods of conversion, grading and seasoning of timber. |
LO3 |
Describe the principles and technology used in the grading of wood with reference to use of span tables. |
LO4 |
Outline the processes and requirements for manufacturing boards and the adhesives used. |
LO5 |
Recognise the main principles of flooring and joisting. |
LO6 |
Communicate and describe the design and installation of various formwork and temporary support systems. |

Forestry
The Social, Economic and Environmental Sustainable contribution of the forestry and the forest products sector.

Wood Technology - Manufactured Boards
Growth and structure of trees, hardwood, softwood, species identification and characteristics with specific reference to native timber. Conservation, seasoning, preservation, acetylation and manufacture wood products and their life cycle. Reference to eurocode 5 design in Timber, COC TRADA and FSC certification.

Floors and Flooring
Suspended/partially suspended timber flooring, joist types and trimming joists, IS 444 span tables, fitting flooring, hardwood and softwood.

Temporary works
Temporary supports for window, arches and trenches. Shoring and main building support.
|
Formwork
Stairs, walls, floors, beams and columns.
Formwork systems, health and safety.
