Indicative Content |
Conservation, Maintenance and Repair
Charters and the historical development of the construction industry, values, and the conservation team. Structural elements and conservation.

Decay in materials and structure
Deterioration and remedial measures associated with wood, stone and other materials. The uses and applications of plastics and synthetic materials as substitutes, in conjunction with, wood as the base material. Internal environment of historic buildings.

Conservation practice
Allowance for the behaviour of timber, recognised jointing techniques, splicing and appropriate intervention and pathology schedules. Timber and construction materials performance in buildings.

Characteristics and principle styles of building conservation when renovating or extending.
Shop Front design: methods of weathering, jointing and construction. Shop fitting, purpose-made counters and fitments for public buildings, office/hotel reception areas, banks. Wall panelling fitting and fixing methods of straight and curved wall, acoustic panelling. Church furniture, principles of design and construction.
