Building Control
Building control act (CDM), drainage and services, thermal insulation and heat transfer, the effects of vapour, dampness, ventilation, air tightness. Sustainable construction passive and active construction techniques, retrofitting/refurbishment and the management of site waste material including hazardous materials.

Performance and quality assurance
Heating systems including; wet heating, underfloor space and warm air. Lighting; natural and artificial systems, energy, fire, sound/acoustic, rating and performance.

Timber engineering
Design and manufacture glulam forms and lamination. Timber built up beams and purlins and components, composite materials and modern jointing techniques.

Health & Safety
Use of risk management to identify hazards in the workplace, assess the risks and propose controls with respect to current legislation; Health and Safety at Work Act (2005), Construction Regulations (2001 and 2005).
