Explain principles and construction methods of various door and window types and the materials used. |

Explain the requirements of the building regulations as they apply to stairs construction. |

Outline the various aspects, techniques and skills relating to second fixing. |

Explain the main principles and considerations in the design and installation of heavy duty sliding doors and folding partitions. |

Indicative Content |
Doors and windows
The manufacturing process of doors/frames, sheeted, panelled and fire resistant doors.
Windows, vertical and horizontal sliding, double hung, storm-proof, pivot hung and ironmongery. Glazing technology, composite construction; aluminum, PVC and steel.

Stairs and winders
Stairs regulations- closed and cut string, dog leg, geometric, spiral, spine-beam, wreathed stairs and handrailing balustrading.

Second fixing
Doors, skirtings, architraves, mouldings, kitchen cabinets, wardrobes and design.
Finishes and protection i.e. French polish and shrink wrap. Off- site assembly, site installation, fixing and current Health & Safety legislation.

Heavy duty doors and partitions
Sliding doors, bespoke and garage doors. Composite doors construction; aluminium, PVC and steel.
Pneumatic controls and sensors, folding partitions and glazed screens.
