Module Description: This module develops a students knowledge of roofing and describes the detailed geometry involved in the design, development and construction of Semi-circular and Polygonal based Turret Roofs.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
# Learning Outcome Description
LO1 Set out and cut a polygonal based turret roof.
LO2 Apply the geometric details of seat cuts in turret roof rafters.
LO3 Construct using best practice, the arrangement and fixing of rafters at the apex.
LO4 Set out and cut a roof with a semi-circular hipped end and off-square/polygonal plan.
LO5 Cut and fit tiling battens to a semi-circular roof.
LO6 Shape and fix wall plates for the semi-circular roof.

Module Recommendations

This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named MTU module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).

Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list.

Indicative Content
Workshop Practice
Safe practice in the design and production of a semi-circular roof and a turret roof involving machines that requires the completion of an inspection checklist.
Construction
Cut and construct a semi-circular and a turret roof including hip rafters, trimmed rafters, saddle and tiling battens. Using Bandsaw and CNC where applicable.
Materials
Natural softwood PAO, manufactured boards.
Design
Scale drawing developed using geometric principles to include hip rafters, jack rafters wall plates.
