# |
Learning Outcome Description |
LO1 |
Recognise the factors associated with the setting out and marking of roofs of varying pitches. |
LO2 |
Set out and cut a roof of varying pitches while maintaining a common soffit size. |
LO3 |
Cut and fix wall plates and rafters for the roof and parapet wall intersection to include a gutter. |
LO4 |
Reproduce best practice in the fixing of wall plates of different heights and a Flying Hip rafter. |
LO5 |
Explain the key principles involved in best practice of Parapet Wall construction at the intersection of the wall and roof. |

Module Recommendations
This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named MTU module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).
|
|
Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list.
|
No incompatible modules listed |

Indicative Content |
Workshop Practice
Safe practice in the design and making of roofs with different pitches while maintaining a constant soffit size and constructing the intersection of a roof with a parapet wall to an appropriate scale.
|
Construction
Cut and construct a roof of varying pitches using CNC to produce wall plate and repeating common rafters where appropriate. Highlight the various factors associated with roof coverings and the materials used in parapet wall guttering.
|
Materials
Natural softwood PAO, manufactured boards.
|
Design
Scale drawing developed using geometric principles to include hip rafters, jack rafters wall plates.
|
Skills
Determination of bevels and lengths, cutting to bevels and lengths, fixing, nailing roof components.
