Module Description: This module will provide the student with theory and practice in the planning, coordination and control of Construction and Engineering projects.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Evaluate appropriate cost planning and cost management techniques for alternative Construction and Engineering Projects.
LO2 Apply project logic to tasks, estimate durations, use project management software to manage time and cash flow on Construction and Engineering projects.
LO3 Interpret the various standard forms of contracts used to control Construction and Engineering projects.
LO4 Demonstrate an understanding of the Management concepts that underpin effective Construction and Engineering Project Management.

Project Cost Management
Outline cost plans, unit method, elemental estimating, use of historical cost data, cost management throughout the project life cycle, value management
Project Time Management and Scheduling Software
Dividing project into tasks, estimating duration, logic, using Microsoft Project to produce a construction schedule/programme, resource management including generation of project cash flow
Standard Forms of Construction Contract
Law of contract, RIAI, Engineers Ireland, GCCC (Public Works ), FIDIC and JCT forms contract.
General Project Management concepts
Leadership,Motivation, Group Dynamics, Human Resource Management, Health and Safety Management.
