Module Details

Module Code: MECH7022
Title: 3D Piping Design
Long Title: 3D Piping Design
NFQ Level: Intermediate
Valid From: Semester 1 - 2013/14 ( September 2013 )
Duration: 1 Semester
Credits: 5
Field of Study: 5211 - Mechanical Engineering
Module Delivered in: 2 programme(s)
Module Description: In this module the learner will use piping software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D and AutoCAD P&ID to produce pipework drawings. The learners will produce P&ID’s, equipment layouts and piping systems by drawing in 2D, Isometric and 3D. From the information stored within the software Material Take Off lists will be generated.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
# Learning Outcome Description
LO1 Use Industry Specific 3D piping software
LO2 Convey piping requirements graphically
LO3 Design and produce 2D and 3D equipment layout drawings
LO4 Produce Material Take Off lists using the drawing software

Module Recommendations

This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named MTU module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).

Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list.
No incompatible modules listed
Co-requisite Modules
No Co-requisite modules listed
Requirements

This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is mandatory before enrolment in this module is allowed. You may not enrol on this module if you have not acquired the learning specified in this section.

No requirements listed

Indicative Content
AutoCAD P&ID
Create a new P&ID drawing, place lines and components, place instruments and instrument lines, add tags, printing for check and approval, generate reports from the data stored in the software.
AutoCAD Plant 3D
Create a new 3D project, defining the available space, build any necessary platforms, create and place equipment, route and coordinate pipework, add pipe supports, use P&ID data in Plant 3D drawing, create and print 2D, Isometric and 3D drawings.
