Module Description: To provide detailed information on the building blocks of the immune system. To present relevant new discoveries that help us better understand the complex working of our immune system.

Indicative Content
Overview of the immune system.
Cells (Th cells, Tc cells, NK cells, B cells, monocyes, neutrophils, granulocytes). Lymphoid organs (bone marrow, thymus, lymph nodes, spleen, Peyer's patches). Cell migration and chemotaxis. Innate immunity, Toll-like Receptors. Antibody structure, function, diversity and mode of action. T Cell Receptor, MHC and antigen recognition, processing and presentation. Immunological tolerance.
Specific examples
Immunity to viruses. Immunity to bacteria and fungi. Tumour immunology. Hypersensitivity type I, II, III, IV, Immunodeficiencies. Transplantation and rejection.
