Module Description: This module introduces students to the concepts and approaches to teamwork and collaborative technologies. Skills acquired in this module will prepare students to work effectively with others in a technology driven workplace environment.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Explain team behaviour using emotional intelligence: internal communications, group dynamics and team work within disciplinary and non-disciplinary teams, managing conflict, motivation and intercultural awareness.
LO2 Develop individually and within a team using effective communication skills and presentation technology.
LO3 Create and write content for a range of business documents using appropriate software.
LO4 Summarise ways to integrate different collaborative technology tools and devices for a range of purposes, tasks and communication media.

Indicative Content
Team Communication and Technology
Introduction to co-operative working environments; structure of teams. Team development, conformity and group-think, groups to teams, team roles, communication in teams, stages in team formation, gender communications, intercultural communications. Conflict management.
Workplace Writing/Documentation
Workplace Documentation and Professional Communication Skills; layout, formatting and production of a range of generic workplace documentation including reports, letters, documents required for meetings, role of committee members, memorandum and e-mail and other industry specific documentation as appropriate.
Electronic Publishing Skills
Layout Tools: Text/Table/WordArt/Clipart, Design Gallery, Working with Objects/Pictures/Tables, Typography, Page Layout, Colour Schemes, Templates. Introduction to Image Editing Software. Flyers, Promotional/Advertising Material, Magazine Articles.
Introducing Collaborative Technologies
IT tools and devices for collaborative working and communications, such as web or video conferencing through platforms such as Teams/Zoom, instant messaging/chat, online phone and video calls; on line forums, social networking sites, wikis and other centralised depositories for documents, blogging, RSS and data feeds, bulk SMS or on-line work management tools, barriers to effective collaboration, use appropriate collaborative tools to communicate through conversations, meetings and webinars.
