Module Description: This Net Games module is one of the 'Games' suite of modules (in addition to
'Strike and Field' and 'Invasion') on the programme and will be delivered primarily through the lens of Volleyball, Badminton and Tennis. Core thematic areas such as technical development, tactical awareness, and rules and regulations, in addition to the pedagogical development of students will form the basis of the module. Students will learn how to plan lessons to deliver them to be safe, challenging and appropriate for all abilities.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO2 Demonstrate accurate and effective execution of selected skills in pressurised and/or non-pressurised Net Games contexts
LO3 Design an event/initiative that encourages individuals from diverse backgrounds to participate in Net Games in a variety of primary and/or post-primary settings
LO4 Apply a relevant curriculum model in the pedagogical delivery of teaching activities to peers to create meaningful and engaging activities for students in post-primary schools.

Indicative Content
Sport Education & the Role of Curriculum Models
Introduction to Curriculum Models and how they reflect a specific philosophy with regard to what is most important in a specific strand of the current post-primary physical education curricula. A specific emphasis is placed on the Sport Education curriculum model, which provides learners with an enjoyable and authentic experience of organised physical activity as they learn to perform playing and non-playing roles.
Sports Pedagogy in Net Games
Net Games will be explored and developed in depth in the sports of badminton, volleyball and tennis across the semester. Pedagogical strategies will be explored and developed to foster effective and appropriate delivery of the related technical, tactical, and regulatory aspects of each game in a post-primary school setting. Encourage learners’ active participation in physical education irrespective of their level of ability and/or commitment to physical activity. Strong emphasis placed on facilitating the learners in achieving goals that are meaningful and relevant to them.
The Role of Planning, Reflection and Feedback in Pedagogy
The students will plan for meaningful and effective learning activities for post primary school children.The development of effective and practical lessons/events that allow for a more engaging learning environment will be explored.Reflection and feedback will be developed on a self/peer and lecturer basis with the ultimate goal of enhancing teaching skills of each in student in a collaborative and supportive way.

Assessment Description
In pairs, develop a digital portfolio (e-portfolio) of learning incorporating a variety of relevant and appropriate teaching resources including a scheme of work for each of the Net Games covered, in addition to a variety of teaching resources (e.g. posters, props, multimedia content). This portfolio should also include content related to (i) safe, inclusive and engaging Net Games activities, (ii) the promotion of a positive, encouraging and inclusive learning environment, (iii) the age-appropriate competencies and holistic benefits of such activities, (iv) progression of competencies within the lesson series, and (iv) a clear rationale for the selection of all activities.

Assessment Description
Plan,implement and reflect on Net Games teaching sessions/events based on an appropriate instructional model (e.g. Sport Education,Cooperative Learning, Personal and Social Responsibility etc.). Formative assessment, feedback and the critical role of reflective practice (before and after class) is embedded into this practical experience on a weekly basis to support the learning process.
