On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO5 Apply critical analysis and problem-solving skills to case studies relating to aviation regulation and policy.

Indicative Content
Legal & Regulatory Framework
Liberalization and deregulation of air transport. Air transport safety and security regulations. Occurrence reporting. Protection of passenger rights. Protection of the environment.
Regulatory Bodies
Role of Irish Aviation Authority, International Civil Aviation Organisation, The European Commission, European Union Aviation Safety Agency.
Risk Management
Risks faced by airlines. Development of a risk management process to include hazard identification, risk assessment, mitigation and risk control, risk monitoring, and emergency response.
Compliance Management
Compliance policy, process, documentation, monitoring, evaluation, roles and responsibilities. Integration of Compliance Management System and Safety Management System.
Case Studies
A selection of case studies on aviation policy and regulation.
