Module Description: In this module, the principles that underpin the corporate and project financial decision making process within the construction sector are studied.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Interpret the financial statements of construction companies.
LO2 Engage in investment decision making for construction companies and total project life cycle costing.
LO3 Analyse how the domestic and international economic environment can affect corporate and project capital availability.
LO4 Design appropriate strategies to enable construction companies to engage in corporate and financial expansion.
LO5 Determine how the working capital of a construction company should be managed efficiently.

Financial Statements
Company reports, reading financial accounts, taxation and audits, financial analysis tools.
Investment Decision Making
Investment appraisal principles, investment diversification, analytical decision making, cost benefit analysis, life cycle costing.
Company Valuation
Company capital structure, funding sources, cost of capital, risk (Betas and Gearing), dividend policy, capitalization issues.
Working Capital Management
Financing working capital, controlling liquidity, controlling stocks, controlling debtors.
External Expansion for Construction Companies
Mergers, acquisitions, strategic alliances, regulation of mergers, merger/take-over defences.
