Module Details

Module Code: ENVI6006
Title: Services: Energy, Water & Dra
Long Title: Services: Energy, Water & Drainage
NFQ Level: Fundamental
Valid From: Semester 1 - 2019/20 ( September 2019 )
Duration: 1 Semester
Credits: 5
Field of Study: 5810 - Architecture & Urban Environment
Module Delivered in: 2 programme(s)
Module Description: This module focuses on energy, water supply, drainage, lighting, electrical/data systems and heat loss related to domestic buildings. Renewable & non-renewable energy technologies for heat and power, potable & non-potable water, hot and cold water supply, water efficiency, collection, drainage, sanitation and electrical/data systems are studied. Energy losses through building fabric are calculated.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
# Learning Outcome Description
LO1 Propose methods for dealing with autonomous energy supply by selecting appropriate small scale renewable energy systems to meet calculated energy demand (heat & power) at a domestic scale.
LO2 Propose water treatment, efficiency, reuse & collection strategies to improve and reduce water consumption in a building while dealing with waste water (black water, grey water) and surface water run-off on a rural site.
LO3 Make informed decisions with respect to hot & cold water services, heating systems, electrical/data requirements, drainage and sanitation for a domestic multi-storey building connected to a public and/or district system.
LO4 Calculate energy loss and associated condensation risk analysis through the fabric of a building using software.

Module Recommendations

This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named MTU module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).

Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list.

Requirements

This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is mandatory before enrolment in this module is allowed. You may not enrol on this module if you have not acquired the learning specified in this section.

No requirements listed
