Module Description: The student will study traffic management, analysis and design of transport infrastructure. The use of alternative energy systems for transportation will also be studied.

Public Transport systems
Light and heavy rail design. Busways and Bus Rapid Transit. Green route design.
Cycle and pedestrian design
National Cycle Manual. Cycleway design and issues. Designing for the pedestrian. Safety issues.
Traffic surveys
Traffic surveys: flows, speeds, parking, delay.
Energy in transport
Current energy in transport and the impacts of the transport sector on the environment. Renewable alternatives for transport and their potential uses.
Transport safety issues
Road safety. Statistics. Prevention strategies.Safety issues in public transport design.
