Module Description: This module will outline the skills necessary to measure and tender for building works and elements of buildings. The roles and duties from the professional quantity surveyor and contractors' perspectives will be examined.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Identify the skills necessary for the measurement of domestic construction and measurement of construction elements.
LO2 Prepare measurement scope sequencing.
LO3 Measurement of defined elements of construction.
LO4 Outline the role of the quantity surveyor and identify the duties to be undertaken at the different stages of the construction process from opposing perspectives.
LO5 Describe and understand the tendering process and outline the procedure in relation to acquiring construction work.
LO6 Examine the ways in which tenders may be prepared and identify the processes involved.

Indicative Content
Measurement
Measurement of a variety of substructure elements. Measurement of external and internal wall elements including partitions. Measurement of floors, solid and suspended.
Principles of Measurement
Use of ARM4 and its application to a bill of quantities. Understanding the importance of using ARM4 for proper pricing of construction works.
Procedures
Understanding the tender process and the preparation of tenders. Pricing of construction work outlining the role of the main contractor and quantity surveyor within the overall process.
