Module Description: This module will describe the principles, the design, and operational characteristics of water-based services for domestic standard buildings.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Indicative Content
Principles of Heat Loss in Buildings
Heat loss calculations, thermal conductivity, thermal resistance, thermal transmission, heat loss due to ventilation.
Conventional Domestic Heating Systems
Radiator circuits, hot water heating circuits, (low pressure) oil boilers, gas boilers, solid fuel boilers, and their limitations under Part L 2017.
Low carbon emitting domestic heating systems
Domestic application of solar energy, the domestic application of heat pump technology.
Domestic water supply
Sources of domestic water supply, the distribution of water supply, water supply filtration and sterilization. Cold water distribution in domestic houses.
Domestic waste water
Domestic foul and surface water drainage, waste water treatment, percolation tests.
