Module Description: This module will describe in detail the range, operation and requirements of building services in industrial buildings to gain an understanding of building services selection.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Examine how fire safety legislation and design principles are applied to large buildings.
LO2 Determine how heating, cooling and energy services are applied to large buildings.
LO3 Select and describe appropriate building services for Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB).
LO4 Explain and describe how electrical power is distributed in large buildings.

Air Conditioning
Operation of air conditioning systems. Air distribution. Refrigeration & cooling towers, fan coil, and induction units.
Heating Systems
Medium and high pressure hot water heating. Atmospheric and forced air boilers. Commercial and industrial heaters. Heat exchangers.
Electricity & Lighting Systems
LV electrical power supplies, controls and safety systems for large buildings. Uninterrupted power supplies. Structured cabling. Power distribution in large buildings. Lighting systems and design.
Fire Safety
Fundamentals of fire and combustion. Fire safety legislation. Smoke management. Fire protection & control equipment.
Nearly Zero Energy Services and intelligent controls
The application of heat pumps, ventilation heat recovery systems, combined heat and power, district heating, carbon neutral fuel boilers, solar and photoelectric systems.
