Module Description: The learner will undertake a 15 credit work placement. The placement will provide the
student with an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge gained on their programme and
the integration of engineering, scientific, and other disciplines in a commercial operation. The
placement is supported by a member of departmental staff together with a workplace
mentor. The aim of the placement is to introduce the learner to structured
employment in a relevant work sector and to develop in the learner an understanding of
the organisation, its procedures, technology and engineering practices.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Business and manufacturing structures and processes, quality assurance systems, health and safety practices, IT systems, interrelationships and interfaces.
Management of Professional Practice: Wider Implications
Identify and implement professional practice with respect to social, environmental, ethical, health, safety, legal, personnel, sustainable, economic, financial and commercial considerations and responsibilities. Evidence of ethical decision making.
Interpersonal Management and Leadership
Managing interpersonal relationships covering conflict, conflict prevention and resolution. Demonstrating leadership and initiative and delivering on individual responsibility for adoption/development/improvement of a system.
Personal Development
Undertaking professional development (technical and soft skills training) and enhancing professional competencies.
Problem Solving
Defining and analysis of work-related practical problems and suggestions of appropriate, creative and innovative solutions.
Teamwork and Communication
