Business management skills are core to Community Work. The ethical stewardship of public monies is essential to effective community work. This module provides the learner with some of the key requisite skills for this area of work (underpinned by community work principles and practice).

Discuss why business management skills are core to effective community work in both the non-governmental (NGO) and statutory sectors in Ireland |

Using examples, outline four key elements of management and their implications for good practice in community development work |

Evaluate the challenges and opportunities for strategic planning in the Irish and European Union (EU) community development context |
LO4 |
Critique the management role of key Government Departments and Agencies in the context of community work practice in Ireland |
LO5 |
Critically analyse the nature of best work practices in a community context |

Managerial Decision Making: the Fundamentals and Implementation of Strategic Planning; Monitoring and Evaluation; Management Information Systems and Control; the Management Role of some key Statutory Bodies (for example, Pobal) and Non-Governmental Organisations in the Community Development field (for example, The Community Foundation of Ireland); Ethics and Management.
