Module Description: This module combines theoretical principles underpinning electronic business with a working knowledge of the technologies involved in the development of a Web-based information system.

E-Business Characteristics
Introduction to E-Business and E-Commerce such as defining E-Business and E-Commerce, E-Business opportunities, Business adoption of of digital technologies for E-Commerce and E-Business; E-Business risks and barriers to business adoption and management responses to E-Commerce and E-Business.
E-Business Strategy
What is E-business strategy? E-Business strategy and other organizational strategies; strategic positioning; levels of E-Business strategies; business and technology drivers; the strategic planning process; alignment of strategic and business goals; competitive strategy theories (Porter); resource-based view and transaction-cost economics; success factors and E-Business strategy; role of change management in strategy decisions and implementation e.g. mergers and acquisitions.
E-Procurement
Supply Chain Management, enabling technologies. E-Procurement. E-Marketplaces. Protocols and Standards.
Trust in E-Business
Trust in E-Business. Understanding the scope of E-Commerce crime and security problems. The key dimensions of E-Commerce security. E-payment systems and Electronic currency. BlockChain Technology. Payment protocols: 3D Secure.
Server-side Web Technologies
Open source server-side scripting; setting up a 3-tier environment – application server, database server, client browser; review of network protocol HTTP; connecting to and querying remote database servers using server-side scripting; creating dynamic Web content; cookies and session control; authentication/login processes; file management in system development; implementing system use cases; testing. WebApp Development.
