Module Description: This module gives the student an opportunity to enhance their theoretical understanding and consolidate their theoretical links to their clinical practice. The student identifies a research topic as a way of widening their own concepts and thinking in relation to Art Therapy as both a practice and profession.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Identify a research strategy for a thesis related to Art Therapy
LO2 Identify and apply reflective skills and thinking in searching, retrieving and appraising information into aspects of Art Therapy Practice , theory & research
LO3 Apply a cogent theoretical argument in relation to therapeutic image making processes.
LO4 Debate contemporary theoretical thinking within a peer setting
LO5 Reflect and identify issues of context in relation to cultural and ethnic influences in clinical practice

Psychiatry
Introduction to the nature and role of psychiatric care in Ireland today. Psychiatric classification and identification/ diagnosis and the role of the therapies within a medical/ social model of care
Research Methodologies
An exploration of research methodologies, qualitive and quantative models taking into account ethical and professional issues
Clinical Practice
Theoretical thinking and models/ approaches used within client practice, including child & adolescent, learning disability, psychiatry, palliative care
