Module Description: The aim of the Mental health placement is to enable students to gain direct experience of the procedures, approaches and methods used in the mental health service.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Show an understanding of Psychiatric assessment and treatment practices and the principles which guide them
LO2 Show an understanding of specific categories of psychiatric disorders especially affective disorders, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders
LO3 Show an understanding of the place of networking with other mental health professionals and an ability to engage helpfully in networking.
LO4 Show an understanding of the use of a Psychiatric diagnostic system - DSM IV or ICD 10 for diagnosing a range of disorders
LO5 Show an understanding of the role of the multi disciplinary team within the mental health service.
LO6 Show knowledge and understanding of methods additional to individual therapy that are used to address mental health issues e.g. psycho-social group work, arts and health programmes etc.
