Module Description: In this module studens will be facilitated to develop an integrated understanding of the principles of Psychotherapeutic change. They will learn and consolidate an approach to Psychotherapy practice involving the integration of relevant theoretical approaches and clinical methods.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Form a working understanding of the principal mechanisms that produce change in Psychotherapy and demonstrate this understanding in his/her clinical practice
LO2 Make capable use of case conceptualisation frameworks and methods to guide clinical work
LO3 Identify and explore a wide range of clinical issues that present in Psychotherapy. Develop and follow a course of therapy and deliver effective psychotherapeutic responses in response to them.
LO4 Show a developed understanding of the role of the therapeutic relationship, both conscious and unconscious as a mechanism of change in Psychotherapy and demonstrate his/her use of this in clinical practice
LO5 Critically evaluate and integrate a range of methodological approaches drawn from a variety of complementary theoretical positions and use them capably to facilitate Psychotherapeutic processing
LO6 Demonstrate the capability to crically review ethical and professional practice issues and develop a competent process for approaching ethical and professional decision making.

Change Mechanisms in Psychotherapy
Forming a working understanding of the principal mechanisms that produce change in Psychotherapy and applying this understanding to clinical practice
Case conceptualisation frameworks
Making capable use of case conceptualisation frameworks and methods to guide clinical work
Addressing a range of clinical issues
Developing and following a course of therapy and delivering effective psychotherapeutic responses in response to a wide range of clinical issues that present in Psychotherapy - grief and loss, anxiety, depression, disorders of the self, codependency and addiction, existential issues - meaninglessnes, aloneness, loneliness, death, freedom.
Therapeutic relationship
Understanding the role of the therapeutic relationship, both conscious and unconscious as a mechanism of change in Psychotherapy and applying this in clinical practice
Integrating a range of approaches
Critically evaluating and integrating a range of methodological approaches drawn from a variety of complementary theoretical positions and using them capably to facilitate Psychotherapeutic processing
Ethical and professional practice
Developing the capability to crically review ethical and professional practice issues and developing a competent process for approaching ethical and professional decision making.
