Review and evaluate a range of research methods relevant to Psychotherapy and explore the methodological issues that pertain to research in this field |

Review and evaluate a range of practitioner based research methodologies |

Review, analyse and compare qualitative and quantitative research methods |

Analyse and evaluate research data |
LO6 |
Produce an overall research design appropriate appropriate for use in a Masters level practitioner based research project |

Key research types and styles (e.g. case studies, autoethnography, Narrative inquiry, etc) and data gathering methods (questionnaires, interviews, observation etc)

Reviewing, analysing and comparing qualitative and quantitative research methods

Qualitative Research in Counselling and Psychotherapy
Introduction to the Method of gathering qualitative data, its historical Evolution and its specific problems. Exploring heuristic inquiry, reflexivity.

Data Analysis
Quantitative and qualitative data analysis; analysing questionnaire, interview, focus groups, observation data; quantitative and qualitative data analysis software; the process of transformation, interpretation, and presentation of data.

Research Design
Research design issues: managing research, sampling issues, managing key criteria such as validity and reliability

Ethics in Research
Ethics in research: academic honesty and integrity, fair use, informed consent, the acknowledgement of all sources, contributors and collaborators
