Module Description: This module will enable students to develop and practise the initial skills of counselling and helping, with particular emphasis on reflective listening skills.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Indicative Content
Reflective listening skills
The focus of the module is on the development of reflective listening skills and initial exploration skills. The method is experiential learning. 1. The student will complete two taped counselling interviews with another student. 2. A review of the interview will be facilitated by the Skills Tutor. Peer and tutor feedback on the interview will be provided as well as the student’s own feedback. 3. The student will write a commentary on each interview. 4. The tutor will coach students on the use of reflective listening skills and initial exploration skills.
