Module Description: |
Recent trends in the Third Sector have meant that the Irish State (as elsewhere) requires greater accountability and transparency. In this context, effective management skills are of increasing importance to the community worker. This module explores management principles and practices in a theoretically-informed fashion. It includes inputs on funding, employment legislation as well as human resource (HR) issues.

Classical management theory, human relations theory, neo-human relations theory, system theory, feminist management theory.

Ireland and EU initiatives - Statutory and Third Sector; funding applications: the use of web-based application process; Departmental reporting mechanisms.

Human resource management and the Irish legislative context; managing diversity; conflict resolution and managing volunteers.

Staffing; recruitment and selection; retention, communication; stress management.
