Module Description: This module examines the concepts and fundamentals of computer based information systems and the impact of IT on a firms structure, performance & relationship. The students develop an overview of telecommunication and computer networks as well as the ability to use, design and modify databases.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Impact of Information Systems on organisations, Impact of Information Systems on industry structure, Information Technology supporting competitive advantage
Networking
Networking components & topologies, Wireless Technology, Radio Frequency Identification, Client/server computing, Cloud computing, Communications in a network environment, Telecommunication Applications, Internets, Extranets and Intranets
Databases
Students will be introduced to Microsoft Access. Design and create tables with appropriate data types, Entity-relationship modelling, Normalisation, Edit and link tables, Create and edit forms, reports and queries.
