Module Description: The placement programme will familiarise the student with work practices and procedures in a professional multimedia and/or design environment. It will provide the learner with the opportunity to observe the practical application of theoretical knowledge gained on his/her programme. The placement is supported by a member of academic staff in CIT together with a workplace mentor. The aim of the work placement is to introduce the learner to structured employment in a relevant work sector and to develop in the learner an understanding of the organisation, its procedures and technology.

Indicative Content
Duration
The work placement will run for a period of no less than 13 weeks, ideally commencing at the start of the 2nd Semester of Stage 3. It will be organised and managed as follows:
Preparation
Learners will be assisted in preparation for seeking work placement with seminars on CV preparation, both digital designed and formal printed versions, interview preparation will also be carried out. Students will design and develop a professional standard digital magazine/online journal of their multimedia work to be viewed by potential employers and to bring interviews.
Administration
A work placement coordinator will have responsibility for the overall organisation of the module. Learners are tasked with finding a suitable work placement with the support and approval of the work placement coordinator. The work placement coordinator will be assisted by the college Careers Office.
Supervision & Progress
Host companies will appoint an industrial supervisor who will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the learners' work. A work placement programme will be agreed and documented between the work placement coordinator and the industrial supervisor in consultation with the placement supervisor and the learner. The placement supervisor will visit the student in the host company once during the period of work placement. The placement coordinator is responsible for the organisation and overall coordination of the placement program.
Work Placement Supervisor Assessment
The placement supervisor will monitor the student's progress by maintaining close contact with both the student and industrial supervisor and by visiting the student on the host company site to assess progress. The supervisor will request the student to present demonstrations, evidence and/or descriptions of the work carried out. The supervisor will also take into account the feedback from the industrial supervisor/line manager.
Weekly Reports
Each student is required to submit a weekly work placement report to their industrial supervisor and their CIT work placement supervisor (via Blackboard). These reports should be designed to industry standard and include as a minimum updates on: • The week's tasks ? identifying routine and non?routine/new tasks • Project status (if applicable) • New technologies/tools or experiences • Problems encountered, approach taken to resolve
Student Work Placement Report.
Each student will submit a work placement report to their placement supervisor after the placement. This report must be submitted on completion of the placement. This report is required to include as a minimum: Host Company • An analysis of the company's industry sector and the company's position within it. • The company's management structure and operation. • Details of activities carried out by the company at the students location. Work Placement Environment and Experience Summary • Reporting structure and description of the student's immediate work group. • Details of regular duties carried out by the student. • Details of project work carried out by the student. • Summary of weekly reports Learning and Experience Self Evaluation • Technologies/tools used or encountered. • Skills used, new skills learned. • The outcome of the programme and the experiences and lessons learned from the placement. Note: In exceptional circumstances where it has not proved possible for the student to undertake work placement the student will be requested to undertake a significant research project and written report in lieu of the above assessment.
