Module Description: |
This module builds on fundamental knowledge of anatomy and physiology and applies it to human movement and exercise. The acute and chronic responses to training in the respiratory, cardiovascular, neuromuscular and endocrine systems. The theoretical aspects of the module are complemented by laboratory sessions in which the learning is applied.

Describe the acute responses to exercise in the cardiovascular, respiratory and muscular systems. |

Explain the relationship between training modality and the chronic responses to exercise in the cardiovascular, respiratory and muscular systems. |

Explain the relationship between exercise intensity and energy metabolism. |
LO4 |
Perform anthropometric and physiological measurements on adults, including the measurement of height, body mass, girth, blood pressure, and heart rate. |
LO5 |
Summarise the link between the principles of training, the chronic physiological responses to exercise and exercise prescription. |

Acute responses to training with a particular emphasis on the respiratory, CV, and muscular systems.

Chronic Responses to Training
Chronic adaptations to regular exercise with a particular emphasis on the respiratory, CV, and muscular systems.

Energy Transfer and Exercise
The relationship between exercise intensity and duration and the metabolic pathways for ATP resynthesis.

Anthropometric Measurements
Measuring body mass, height, girth, and resting blood pressure.
|
Principles of Training
The importance of placement, progressive overload, rest and recovery, specificity and reversibility on achieving chronic responses to training.
