Module Description: |
This module examines the major regions, countries, cities and geographical features of the world’s continents. Together with a comprehensive knowledge of the major characteristics of the top ten world’s tourist destinations. It also aims to identify and create suitable itineraries for different categories of leisure tourists.

Indicative Content |
Destination geography.
Understand the importance of destination geography to the travel professional. Discuss and identify suitable destinations for different types of leisure tourists. Plan and create travel itineraries. Knowledge of world time zones

Continents of the World.
Knowledge of world continents. Identify major regions, countries and main cities of the world’s continents. Describe and identify oceans, major seas, rivers, mountains and other geographical features that contribute to the importance of tourist destinations.

Tourist destinations.
Examine the top ten tourist destinations ranked by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s visitor arrivals. Identify the pull factors that has led to the popularity of these destinations to include location, climate, culture and attractions.

Climate and destinations.
Understand the difference between weather and climate. The effect of climate on destinations. Climate factors to include latitude, altitude, winds and proximity to water. Classifying the different climates and world climatic zones. Climate change and its impact on destinations.
