Module Description: This module is designed to give the student the opportunity to combine and extend their knowledge(s) and experience gained through previous placement experience and classes. The student will undertake two supervised block placements with differing age groups (early and middle childhood) and will have the opportunity to critique the setting’s pedagogy through the lens of the Montessori pedagogy. Particular emphasis will be placed on management practices in chosen educational settings.

LO1 Apply an advanced understanding of Montessori and other complementary pedagogical practices, national practice frameworks, guidelines, legislation and regulations.
LO2 Apply values, competencies and knowledge(s) to develop, implement and review appropriate learning opportunities, in adherence with Montessori pedagogy.
LO3 Analyse their personal and professional development and practice experience in a critically reflective manner, through portfolio work.
LO4 Apply and appraise the salient legislative and procedural provisions regulating practice in the placement setting.
LO5 Use a portfolio of learning to design and appraise learning opportunities, to critique practice and to construct an advanced understanding of Montessori pedagogy.
LO6 Analyse professional practice during on-line, and on-site, coaching sessions with particular emphasis on leadership role in educational setting.

Professional Practice
Develop advanced practice, values, knowledge(s), attitudes and dispositions required for working as Montessori Teacher in a variety of educational and care settings; deepen awareness of the extent and nature of documentation required to comply with relevant legislation, regulations, guidelines and national practice frameworks; aim to participate in as many aspects of the placement setting as possible, with particular emphasis on management practice and systems; aim to contribute to the quality of service provision in an inclusive early learning environment; application of reflective practice in an early or middle childhood education and care setting.
Personal and Professional Development
Working collaboratively to construct appropriate personal and professional goals; undertaking increased individual responsibility for aspects of early and middle childhood education and care practice; engage in ethical practice; advance the skill of reflective practice and self-evaluation through keeping a daily placement diary- recording events, feelings and reactions; take responsibility for own actions in a supervised context.
Application of Learning
Application and analysis of Montessori pedagogy as understood following completion of relevant modules at MTU. Promoting democratic practice, inclusive practice; rights-based practice; philosophising and theorising understanding of the world and relationships.
Management Practice and Systems
Develop increased awareness of the management practices and systems in an early and middle childhood education and care settings.
