Module Description: This module will introduce students to the operation of computerised accounting and payroll systems including the set up and processing of customer, suppliers, bank and nominal ledger transactions and payroll processing.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Explain why enterprise systems are so essential in business today.
LO2 Create accounts and enter opening balances using the Chart of Accounts.
LO3 Record transactions for sales, purchases, expenses, assets and liabilities using a computerised accounting package.
LO4 Produce, analyse and interpret financial and other reports, including the Statement of Profit and Loss and the Statement of Financial Position, using a computerised accounting package.
LO5 Process weekly/monthly payroll including preparation of payroll deductions, payslips and payroll reports using a computerised payroll system.

Indicative Content
Enterprise Systems
Introduction to enterprise systems, the scope of common enterprise systems, the selection, acquisition and implementation of enterprise systems. Examine how common enterprise systems assist organisations in improving efficiencies.
Computerised Accounting System
Setting up a new business on the computerised accounting package. Set the financial year and date. Building customer/supplier and bank records. Creating Tax codes. Backing up data and restoring the company. Record, post and allocate business transactions and generate reports using the Customers, Suppliers, Bank and Nominal Ledger Modules in a computerised accounting package. Producing financial and other reports.
Computerised Payroll System
Create a company and set up the payroll period. Enter employees with allowances, hourly and salary payments and deductions. Process weekly and monthly employee timesheets. Calculate and enter holidays. Update employee records with P2C details. Process P45’s for new and terminating employees. Complete a P30. Payroll backup. Generate Payslips and Payroll reports from computerised payroll system. Prepare manual tax deduction cards.
